I get questions ALL the time asking me about what it means to be a rep or ambassador for a company, how to become one, and what the requirements are. So today I thought I would compile a bunch of the information I have and my experiences! I also reached out to y’all a couple weeks ago to submit questions and I included my answers at the end of this post!
First off, every single brand is going to be different when it comes to brand reps, some only work with bloggers with a certain Instagram following, others work with anyone and everyone, and each company is going to have different requirements.
The most “common” way to get selected by a brand rep is to apply. Most companies will reach out on their website and social media letting customers know that applications are open. Typically an application will ask what school you go to (if you are a student), extracurriculars, why you think you qualify to be a brand rep, what your social media accounts are, etc.
Other companies will reach out to bloggers or social media users by DM or Email. I have found that companies are more likely to reach out by email so I recommend adding your blog or business email to your Instagram bio.
One of the most asked questions is whether or not you need a public social media account. This all depends on the specific company. If you want to get accepted into a program and you apply you should make your account public until you hear back from the account whether or not you have been accepted or not. If you account is private when they go to look over it to see if you are qualified for the position they won’t be able to see your content, making your chances of being selected MUCH more difficult. Once you get accepted though, some companies will allow you to go back to being private and others will ask you to remain public.
I thought this was a great question! You can definitely be a brand rep even if you go to a small school with uniforms! Most of the work you do to rep will be done on social media but I always recommend repping your brand whenever you can! So even if you can’t wear the clothing, accessories, etc. to school because of a uniform, you could wear them to basketball games, talent shows, hanging out with friends, pretty much any function! Word of mouth is the best way to promote a brand!
This is going to depend on the person. For me, I have a blog that I use to promote the brands I rep as well as my Instagram account. I have so much fun repping and sharing brands that I truly love that I like to do more than just post blog posts. However, the bulk of what goes into being a brand rep “off of social media” is really just prepping for photo shoots, creating blog/Instagram story graphics, etc.
My biggest tip is to be a customer and promote items BEFORE applying for a program. This will show the company that you are committed and you have what it takes! Also don’t be afraid to brag about yourself in your application! I know that tons of bloggers love to help others with their applications so feel free to reach out! We are here to help!
My favorite parts about being a brand rep:
- I have met some AMAZING friends from around the country! I talk to my blogger friends almost daily and their friendships mean so much to me! If it weren’t for the brand rep programs I am apart of I would have never met them!
- I get to be creative! I love photography and graphic design and promoting for companies is seriously so much fun!
- Getting to work with companies is seriously one of the best things in the world! I have been given so many opportunities and I am so grateful for all of them!
I also want to say that being a brand rep is so much more than just getting free stuff. If you are applying for the free stuff, you are getting into it for the wrong reason! Being a brand rep is seriously so fun and I love everything about it!
I hope I answered all your questions! If I didn’t please don’t hesitate to reach out! I am always here to help!
